Senior Center Previews $230,000 Budget Increase
Other Committee · Meeting of January 8, 2026
DEERFIELD — South County Senior Center board previews a roughly $230,000 tri-town budget hike tied to a possible move. The Board of Oversight, including members Trevor McDaniel and Joyce Palmer Fortune and Sunderland's representative Dan, reviewed costs of relocating to a 12,000-square-foot building at 112 Amherst Road in Sunderland, versus the center's current 1,700-square-foot space. Under a revised cost-share formula, Sunderland's contribution would rise $70,799, Whately's $26,508 and Deerfield's $132,740.
New-site costs include roughly $14,000 a month in rent, $3,500 a month for electricity and a $14,030.37 capital request for security cameras and keyless entry. "It's essentially doubling our budget," the director said. No budget vote was taken; the board presents to the Deerfield Finance Committee Monday, January 12.
