Deerfield Committee Elects Chair, Begins Housing Bid Review
Other Committee · Meeting of August 30, 2026
Deerfield evaluators begin vetting the town's only senior housing bid for 8385 North Main Street. The newly formed Deerfield Senior Housing Development Proposal Evaluation Committee elected Christopher Dunn chair and spent more than an hour weighing Rural Development, Inc.'s 34-unit proposal, the sole response to a second RFP after a 2025 solicitation drew none. RDI's plan mixes affordability at 30, 50, 60 and 80 percent of area median income and carries a roughly $33 million construction estimate, including a $750,000 local contribution request that could be bonded against Community Preservation Act senior-housing funds.
Select Board member Tim Hilchey said the proposal "doesn't mention" that added local ask outright. Members flagged missing snow-storage and hallway-width details and agreed to invite RDI for a formal interview and schedule site visits before finalizing their evaluation.
