Select Board adopts senior, veteran tax workoff program
Select Board · Meeting of September 2, 2026
Deerfield Select Board adopts a senior and veteran property tax workoff program. The board voted unanimously to implement the policy, born from a citizens' petition passed nearly unanimously at annual town meeting, capping abatements at $1,500 per participant with up to 10 spots available a year. Town Administrator Christopher credited resident Greg Snedeker for drafting supporting job descriptions, with Recreation Director Gabby among the department heads lining up volunteer roles.
The board also set the town-wide tag sale for October 3, renewed a weights and measures contract with the state Division of Standards, and appointed Tobias Khan as transfer station attendant alternate. Members heard that a Proposal Evaluation Committee rated Rural Development Inc.'s senior housing proposal "favorable to highly advantageous" and could bring a developer-designation vote as soon as next week.
