Oversight Board Preps Push to Counter Rival Site Plan

Other Committee · Meeting of April 9, 2026

Deerfield senior center board preps campaign to counter rival $350,000 renovation claim. The South County Senior Center Board of Oversight, representing Deerfield, Sunderland and Whately, said an alternative to renovate 8 Conway Street in Deerfield for roughly $350,000 originated with Whately's Tim Hilchey rather than any town's finance committee, and called the figure "completely fabricated." The board's own EDM Studios needs assessment put that renovation at $7.94 million versus a preferred lease at 112 Amherst Road in Sunderland, where owner Mr. Warner confirmed the elevator needs no upgrade and no sprinkler system is required, with base rent at $10,000 a month.

Director Joyce Palma Fortune said capital costs were trimmed to about $52,430.53 from $64,000. Members voted 2-0 to adjourn, with Trevor McDaniel absent, and plan a public push before Saturday's forum.
