Deerfield Senior Panel Re-Votes Minutes, Debates CPC Housing Fund
Other Committee · Meeting of July 15, 2026
Deerfield senior housing panel debates tapping CPC money for a first-time homebuyer fund. The Ad Hoc Senior Housing Committee's Lele Dwight floated using roughly $50,000 in Community Preservation Act funds, modeled on a Pioneer Valley town's program, to help first-time buyers and cut lot-size and frontage requirements in half. Member Carolyn Ness pushed back, asking whether that "would leave any money for the seniors who need to get out of their home" they can no longer maintain or afford.
The town's Braeburn parcel, eyed for senior housing or athletic fields, has drawn zero bids; members contrasted Northampton's 90-unit project with Deerfield's own stalled proposal for roughly 30 units on more than two acres. Separately, relocating the former St. James church, tied to the committee's CPA application, is tentatively on the Select Board's July 22 agenda.
The committee re-approved minutes from June 24 and July 8 by 3-0 votes.
