Deerfield committee grills developer on 34-unit senior housing plan for 120 North Main Street. RDI representative Alyssa told the panel the project would include 32 one-bedroom and two two-bedroom units, with affordability ranging from 30 percent to 80 percent of area median income, exceeding the state's 20 percent threshold at the lowest tier. Committee member Lili pushed on skimpy in-unit storage, saying "there's a myth that old people don't need stuff," while another RDI team member cited cost-per-square-foot as the barrier.
RDI said roughly 12 of the project's units would go to Deerfield residents through local preference, based on a 70 percent cap on 18 non-set-aside units. Drawing on its existing Sanderson Place property in Sunderland, RDI said nine of 62 initial applicants there qualified as local, and leasing took about six weeks. The meeting closed with a unanimous voice vote to adjourn.
