Deerfield Community Preservation Committee reelects its officers and sets a September hearing amid a debate over grant paperwork. Chair Kathy Sylvester, Vice Chair Julie Caswell and Clerk Jeff were each reelected unanimously, while the panel approved its March 25 minutes 7-1, with one abstention. Members spent much of the two-hour session debating how much detail to give grant applicants upfront about award conditions, after member Peter pushed for attaching a sample grant agreement and Caswell and member Lili warned it could scare off small applicants.
"These are our conditions, and they've been developed," Peter said, citing a past $500 garden-grant applicant who withdrew rather than complete required paperwork. The committee settled on a hyperlinked example instead. A September 16 public hearing on fiscal 2027 grants was set for the Deerfield Meeting House, and more than $1 million in unspent contingency funds tied to the town's roughly $4 million 1848 building project remains unallocated.
