Deerfield Personnel Board Advances New Job Plans
Other Committee · Meeting of March 19, 2026
Deerfield Personnel Board tables two job descriptions, notes town lifts hiring freeze. Members voted 4-0 by roll call to accept February 26 minutes after correcting Julie Chalfant's name, then reviewed a draft full-time facilities coordinator role, presented by Chalfant and a highway official identified only as Matthew, that would not be funded before fiscal 2028. The board also debated a personnel-manual update creating employee performance evaluations starting fiscal 2027, with member Eric Farrell warning it could become "just a rubber stamp." A police staff assistant job description was tabled pending Chief Pachorek's input on matron duties and accessibility concerns.
Separately, the board learned the Select Board lifted its February hiring freeze after a health insurance increase came in near 12 to 13 percent instead of a feared 20 percent, clearing the way to post a principal assessor role and a 12.5-hour assistant town clerk position ahead of up to six 2027 elections.
