Deerfield Panel Logs 34-Unit Senior Housing Proposal
Other Committee · Meeting of July 22, 2026
Deerfield senior housing panel logs 34-unit RFP, notes lawsuit threat from abutter. The Ad Hoc Senior Housing Committee said a developer submitted a formal proposal for 34 units, two two-bedroom and the rest one-bedroom units at 900 square feet, after the town raised income eligibility to 80 percent of area median income. Members said an abutter identified only as Jason has indicated he intends to sue over the project, though no legal basis was cited.
Abutting families the Risleys and the Clarks remain barred from voting seats on a planned review committee over conflicts of interest but may be invited as non-voting members. Tim Hilchey asked from the floor to confirm the unit count after seeing conflicting figures of 30 and 34. Carolyn Ness reported the USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Service has committed all its funding and is seeking more for a beginning-farmers program with over 30 enrollees.
The panel approved its July 15 minutes 2-0-1 and adjourned after ten minutes.
