Deerfield Housing Panel Chases $500K State Grant
Other Committee · Meeting of March 25, 2026
Deerfield senior housing panel chases a $500,000 state grant with a June deadline. The Ad Hoc Senior Housing Committee learned Town Planner Alex Galloway landed Deerfield eligibility for the state's Rural and Small Town Housing Community of Choice grant program, with a state contact identified as Mackenzie Bell confirming the town qualifies. Members floated using the money for a septic pre-processing tank at the wastewater treatment plant to enable more accessory dwelling units, or for prefabricated senior homes on town-owned land off North Main Street.
"You cannot put an ADU on probably three quarters of the septic systems that exist right now because they are already pumping," said committee member Carolyn Ness. The panel also plans an RFP to relocate or recycle the town-owned St. James structures and approved March 4 minutes 5-0.
