Deerfield committee extends senior housing RFP deadline to July 9

Other Committee · Meeting of May 20, 2026

Deerfield's senior housing panel pushed its RFP response deadline to July 9. The Ad Hoc Senior Housing Committee, with members Carolyn Ness, Kathy Sylvester and Lili Dwight, spent its May 20 meeting reviewing consultant Alex Galloway's draft answers to developer questions on the proposed redevelopment site, including a friendly 40B zoning question, a stormwater cistern proposal on a site that is roughly 70 percent impervious surface, and the undetermined future of Town Hall's current 8 Conway Street site. Galloway noted "there was strong community response" to a Town Meeting vote, with more than 1,000 voters, rejecting relocating the senior center to 112 Amherst Road in Sunderland.

The committee also tabled a demolition grant application after the Select Board declined to pursue it, and discussed a donation-based heating assistance fund for seniors with oil near $5.59 a gallon.
