Capital panel funds school floor, police terminals
Capital Planning · Meeting of March 26, 2026
Deerfield's Capital Improvement Planning Committee voted 5-0 to add $94,000 in spending to its capital plan, split between $50,000 for police mobile data terminals and $44,000 for Deerfield Elementary School cafeteria flooring. Police Chief Pachurek pitched converting the station's three garage bays into office space and building a new drive-through garage, warning that delay risks a future "12 or 14 or 15 million dollar building," but the committee left the project unfunded on the fiscal 2027 plan pending architect estimates. Julie Caswell asked the committee to weigh in on a proposed one-time $100,000 Community Preservation Act allocation to seed a conservation land-purchase fund, calling the effort "brand new"; members opted to seek a town counsel opinion rather than vote.
Finance staffer Holly reported capital stabilization at roughly $561,000 and general stabilization at about $1.3 million.
