Finance Committee, Select Board approve FY2027 school budgets

Deerfield school budgets approved for fiscal 2027. Finance Committee Chair Julie Chalfant and Select Board Chair Trevor McDaniel led approval of the FY2027 school budgets in a joint meeting. The Deerfield Elementary School budget rose 3.81 percent to $5,711,097 due to increased special needs education costs, despite eliminating four positions.
Frontier Regional School budget of $4,657,844 increased 2.71 percent, while Franklin Tech assessment declined 3.05 percent to $589,745 reflecting lower enrollment. All budgets passed unanimously in both committees. The Finance Committee and Select Board discussed Proposition 2 1/2 override options and warrant article language, with public comment raising questions about senior center location and the necessity of the conservation agent position.
