Deerfield Select Board Adopts FOG Sewer Rules, Approves SCEMS Performance Goals

DEERFIELD — January 21, 2026 — Deerfield Select Board adopts new grease rules for food service, approves SCEMS goals. The board unanimously voted January 21 to adopt a Fats, Oils, and Grease regulation effective February 1, 2026, establishing inspection authority and tiered fines — $100 for a second offense, $250 for a third, and $500 for a fourth or subsequent violation within 36 months — for food service establishments connected to the town sewer. The board also unanimously approved a formal set of position goals for South County EMS Director Josh covering March 2026 through March 2027, with the director highlighting plans to establish a capital reserve fund to end what he called "peaks and valleys budgets" and to conduct a community EMS needs assessment. Two Sugarloaf condominium residents, M.A. Sweden and Marcia Martin, told the board their property tax bills had risen 35 to 40 percent year over year, with Martin citing a single-year increase of $2,732 — a 39 percent jump — on a bill of $9,387.20.
