Deerfield Selectboard approves $14,000 in staff stipends and advances kratom sales regulations. Sitting jointly as the Board of Health and Sewer Commissioners on June 24, the three-member board, Chair Trevor McDaniel, Tim Hilchey, and Blake Gilmore, all voting aye on every item, approved a $10,000 lump-sum stipend for Town Administrator Christopher Dunn covering the vacant town planner role and a $4,000 stipend plus additional vacation for DPW Director Greg Snedeker covering assessor duties. Board of Health Agent Ed Savisky presented draft regulations modeled on Greenfield's rules that would ban synthetically altered kratom and synthetic cannabinoids such as Delta 8 and Delta 10, carrying a $1,000 fine for sales to minors; a public hearing is scheduled for the July 8 meeting.
The board also adopted a new employee performance management program, approved Cheryl Miller as assistant town clerk effective July 1, filling a nearly two-year vacancy, and accepted six resignations from town boards including a full-member departure from the Zoning Board of Appeals that now leaves that body facing quorum problems.
