DEERFIELD — South County Senior Center weighs costly relocation to Sunderland. The Board of Oversight, meeting jointly with Deerfield's Finance and Select boards, reviewed two primary location options: renovating the current 8 Conway Street facility or leasing space at 112 Amherst Road in Sunderland. Director Jennifer Ferrara presented estimated FY27 costs of $442,912 for the Sunderland option, a 108 percent increase above current budgets.
Deerfield's 54 percent share totals $239,173, a $132,640 increase from the budgeted $106,533, resulting in a projected $50 annual tax increase for the average household. A commercial kitchen installation could add up to $500,000 within two to three years.
