Senior housing committee advances multiple initiatives

Deerfield's Ad Hoc Senior Housing Committee discussed environmental assessment and potential development of church properties June 10. A brownfields report on the church and rectory found asbestos and oil tanks, with abatement costs estimated between 210,000 dollars and 280,000 dollars, according to committee presenter Alex Galloway. Chair Lili Dwight reported she will meet with the Select Board to discuss removal of buildings on the site excluding the garage.

The committee also discussed archiving St. James Church before potential removal and developed a new utility assistance program for seniors through Triad.
