Senior Center relocation plan drives 189 percent budget jump

DEERFIELD — Three towns jointly reviewed EMS and Senior Center 2027 budgets. South County EMS assessments jumped 20 percent, with expenses up roughly $90,000 and revenue down approximately $100,000, driven by payroll and cost-of-living adjustments. The South County Senior Center's proposed 2027 budget hit $451,269, up 189 percent from the prior year, with Deerfield's share at $243,685, up 129 percent.
The increase stems from rent for the proposed new building at 112 Amherst Road in Sunderland, and the property owner seeks a 15-year lease, possibly negotiable to 10 years or rent-to-own.
