Open Space Committee approves conservation fund grant agreement

Deerfield Open Space Committee backs $100,000 conservation fund. The committee unanimously approved a grant agreement to allocate $100,000 in Community Preservation Act funds for a new Conservation Fund under the Conservation Commission, setting allowable uses for land acquisition, easements, trail development, and related expenses. Committee Chair Julie Caswell will present the fund's proposed decision-making process to the Community Preservation Committee on January 14.
The committee also progressed work on a MassTrails grant due February 2, incorporating an accessible trail component after positive feedback from eight Department of Conservation and Recreation staff members during a recent pitch meeting.
