Finance Committee approves Senior Center budget increase

Deerfield Finance Committee backs $140,432 Senior Center budget requiring Prop 2 1/2 override. Chair Julie Chalfant led the Committee's 6-0 vote for the increase, a 31.94 percent jump required for the facility's move to Amherst Road in Sunderland. The Committee also approved $1,688,501 for SCEMS Payroll ($90,651 or 5.67 percent increase) and $518,861 for Deerfield's SCEMS assessment ($103,846 or 25 percent increase), both voted 6-0.

Senior Center attendance rose 19 percent this year, while the town budget sits within $1,000 of the Proposition 2 1/2 levy threshold.
