Finance Committee approves initial departmental budgets, tables three

DEERFIELD — Finance Committee opens budget season with $627,128 revenue surplus. Chair Julie Chalfant presented revenue analysis showing a 3.2 percent margin available for non-debt spending. The committee approved initial departmental appropriations including $372,279 for Select Board Staff Salaries (a 1.64 percent decrease), $103,978 for the Accountant position, and $99,000 for General Insurance (a 7.61 percent increase).

Three items were tabled for further review: PEG Access Capital at $4,000, Planning Board at $2,000, and Historical Commission at $1,175. Finance Committee member Mark Brennan withdrew a motion to recommend $51,176 for OPEB, instead requesting enterprise fund agencies revise their budgets to include OPEB costs.
