Deerfield Conservation Commission postpones Academy tree removal hearing pending environmental review. The three-member body voted unanimously on June 25 to continue a public hearing on a Notice of Intent to remove up to ten hazard trees near Deerfield Academy's rowing dock at 518 River Road to July 23, waiting for the state's Natural Heritage and Endangered Species Program to respond. Conservation Agent Tim Eve-Cowles confirmed during a June 16 site visit that the trees present hazards.
The removal site, approximately 3,300 square feet of the 12-acre property, lies within jurisdictional riverfront and wetland buffer areas and will employ erosion controls; no fill is proposed.
